For most Indonesian families, eucalyptus oil is a product that must be stored at home or taken while traveling. Where did it come from and what are the benefits and functions of eucalyptus oil. Eucalyptus oil is generally yellow with a strong aroma and is packaged in plastic bottles. Eucalyptus oil has many other names, including Kajuputi leucadendra, Aceite de Cajeput, Cajeputi aetheroleum, and cajeput oil.

Various Functions of Eucalyptus Oil

Eucalyptus oil is the result of distillation of twigs and fresh leaves of eucalyptus trees (Melaleuca leucadendra). In eucalyptus oil that has gone through the process of distillation, contained a chemical called sineol (cineole). If you feel a warm sensation after applying eucalyptus oil to the skin, this sineol chemical causes the warm sensation to the skin. There are several functions of eucalyptus oil that are believed to help reduce physical complaints when used, including:
  • Reducing headaches
  • Overcoming cold symptoms
  • Relieve joint and muscle pain
  • Maintain dental health
  • Relieve toothache and gums (such as after tooth extraction)
Some people even use eucalyptus oil to treat skin infections such as scabies and tinea versicolor. Even using it in small quantities as a flavoring ingredient in cooking. Although generally safe to use, the various functions of eucalyptus oil do not yet have strong clinical trial evidence to support their believed efficacy. In addition, generally the full dosage of use is not found on eucalyptus oil packaging. In this case, user policy becomes very necessary. If used appropriately, eucalyptus oil can be a friend of heating and reducing discomfort when the body feels unwell.

Side Effects

Eucalyptus oil is generally safe for use by most people at modest levels. Applying enough eucalyptus oil on the surface of the skin is still relatively safe, but it is not recommended to apply it to the skin with an open wound. In a small proportion of people, applying eucalyptus oil can cause allergic reactions on the skin. For nasal congestion or coughing, the function of eucalyptus oil might help relieve breathing. But actually the use of eucalyptus oil by inhalation is not recommended. Because, it is feared that it can cause respiratory distress, even did not rule out the possibility of triggering an asthma attack, especially in children. Pregnant or breastfeeding women are advised to avoid the use of eucalyptus oil, or consult with a doctor before using it, because until now there has not been sufficient scientific evidence regarding information on the safety of its use on pregnant women and busui. Eucalyptus oil is made from natural ingredients, but it is not recommended to be used excessively because it can cause irritation. The use of eucalyptus oil must be adjusted to the age, health conditions and needs of its use so that the function of eucalyptus oil can be felt without causing problems and side effects. Until now there is not enough scientific evidence to explain the function of eucalyptus oil and the proper dosage of use.
